Need help with DVD writing on Dell Precision 6600M w/RH5.8

I have RH5.8 on a Dell Precision 6600M. It reads from DVD/CD with no problems. When I try to write to DVD the page comes up to enter the files to write and after adding what I want I click on the "Write" button and a greyed out write window comes up and nothing happens.

I'm assuming I may need a driver for the hardware. I checked the /var/log/dmesg and the DVD listed is: ATAPI: HL-DT-ST DVD+/-RW GS30N
A102, max UDMA/133, ATAPI AN, configure for UDMA/133.

I need to stick to the RH5.8 and the Dell 6600. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

No drivers are required.
Are you selecting your writer as the target device? What application are you using to write to DVD?

I figured it out. The DVD/CD write normally works on most installs without me haveing to configure anything but this time I had to go to System Tools then select CD Writer. I then entered SETUP on the X-CD-ROAST, picked the /dev/cdrom device then setup the /tmp directory to be my "Temporary Image Storage Directories" then select "Add" and "Save Configuration". This got it working for me, some of my other machines still do not have this set up and they work fine so I do not know why this machine required this and the others don't. Thanks for responding.
