Need help running dual monitors in "extended desktop" mode on IBM T61 with Intel gfx

Hello,

I need some help getting my T61 laptop to display an "extended desktop" instead of the cloned desktop (which works by default). I want to be able to have my laptop work like normal when un-docked, but work with an extended desktop across 2 x 24" screens when I am docked. I found a website here that gave me some ideas, but it's only for Fedora 8, not RHEL 5.4.

So I'm using Scientific Linux 5.4 with the following xorg.conf (I tried to modify this one according to the aforementioned website). I think my xrandr version is 1.0.2 I could not get the xrandr commands working (they just make the xrandr help menu appear):
Code:
 $ xrandr --output LVDS --off
$ xrandr --output TMDS-1 --auto
$ xrandr --output VGA --auto
$ xrandr --output TMDS-1 --left-of VGA
xorg.conf
Code:
