need distro for toshiba portege 650ct
 
hi, im a linux noob and was wondering what distro i should get for my toshiba portege 650ct laptop. its hard drive is about 1.5 gigs and i want to mostly use it to take notes in class and browse the internet some. i have an external floppy drive and a wireless network card that fits.


anyone have any suggestions/advice?

http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/toshiba.html would be a good start point. They don't have a listing for your model, but do have similar models.

i've got an old thinkpad 300ed (p133, 16mb ram, 1.5gb hd) and i have tried all sorts of distro's on it. you might want to try vector linux. click on the 'comparitive table' link, and select the appropriate version for your hardware. http://www.vectorlinux.com/mod.php?m...=10&page_id=13
still, i find that windows 98 works the best for something of that era - its relatively small, simple, and you can use the propriety software provided by the manufacturer. (for example, i have special 'safe off' software, as well as various configuration utilities.) i hear there is a great deal of trouble with linux and wireless cards (no drivers, or designed specifically for windows, i guess.) do yourself a favour, and make your install simple and easy - find a copy of windows 98, or even 95, and use that.
