You should be using yum whenever possible. You can ugrade to the latest kernel and kernel devel by yum too. Be suspicious of any howto for fedora which dosn't mention yum.

# yum -y install kmod-ndiswrapper-$(uname -r)
See this thread for more details.

I have installed the latest version of ndiswrapper i.14 on fc5 2080 SMP kernel
when i boot my system i get PCI: cannot allocate mem resource to 0:00:6:00:00 somthing like this wch belongs to my wireless card as i find out from lspci -v.
so modeprobe ndiswrapper hangs finally may be because of that . So can u tell me what can be the solution.

i updated my kernel to 2088 version and tried to use ndiswrapper latest version 1.14, now when i do modprobe ndiswrapper system justs restarts... just dnt knw whats the problem with this, and on reboot it gives always, PCI: cannot allocate resource region 0 to 000:06:00:00 i think tht belongs to my wireless card... :(( m very sadsearch.php?searchid=378009

I am assuming you are using FC5 here ... did you follow the link in my last post? Is there a reason you don't want to follow this advice?

garfield1228 04-18-2006 07:33 AM

sry its nt tht i dnt want to try ur advice its that yum doent connect to the server from my LAN at university. it gives me connection errors thats y m nt been able to use yum.
But i have found a way to install FC5 wireless drivers for any intel cards.

"sorry it's not that I didn't want to try your..." is that it? Please use whole words - this is not txt messaging and these abbreviations just make communication difficult. Remember: you want me to help you ... try to make it easy for me to understand you.

Your University probably connects to the web via a proxy. You should see www.fedorafaq.org on how to connect yum through a proxy. It's still for FC4, but yum works the same.

hello simon,
well i have tried the way u hve suggested but still when it comes to thepoint to do modprobe ndiswrapper, sometimes systems gets completly hanged and sometimes it gets rebooted...
problem still persists this way ... though everything went fine till this last step.

Simon Bridge 04-18-2006 05:28 PM

If you had tried it according to the link in post #2, you wouldn't be trying to modprobe ndiswrapper. I cannot help you if you won't follow advice (see sig).

garfield1228 04-19-2006 12:43 AM

hello Sir,
If you are angry on something I am really sorry for that but if carefully see the thread you asked me to visit says we have to a modeprobe ndiswrapper, there it gave him some FATAL error but to me system just gets restarted.
ANyways thanx for all the help for being kind enough, i have sorted it out in the general way.
thanx
