My NIC doesn't seem to work...

How can I check that my wireless card and NIC both work other than plugging it into a router or switch? During installation it seem to detect my NIC but maybe not my wireless.
Thanks,
Kenneth

I was wrong. I found out that it did detect my NIC. When I plugged my computer directly in to my router, SuSE detected a network connection and Knetmanager tried connecting to the network but was asigned a random ip address. The router is set to give out addresses form 192.168.0.2~254 (subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) but it was asigned something like 168.something.... How can I connect my computer to the network and use the internet too? Also how can I check if my wireless card is detected, it a Atheros 802.11 super G.
-Thanks,
Kenneth

p.s. I meant to edit my first post but I somehow failed to do so. I'm sorry for double posting.
