"multiboot utility" and "dell utility partition" on dell i5150

Hello,

I would like to know if I have to completely remove the "dell utility partition" that states on my dell laptop. I would like to use a multiboot.
What I expect to do is remove the "XP familiy ed" and install an msdos or freedos, and "w2K" and "XP Pro" with Linux (a RH 9).

I don't have yet chosen any multiboot loader utility but I have just read good things concerning "xosl". However, www.xosl.org doesn't seem to be alive!!

Any advise ?

Cheers, X.

This xosl utility seems to have links with more than 2 or 3 past years.
Is there an alternative soft to this ?

Please Help!

Is the dell utility partition necessary? Will it generate problems for multibooting?

Help, please!

Cheers, X.

dell

I hope you got an answer to your questions by now.
If you ask me: you don't need a partition on any system, to replace your ms win os!
If you have an official package of the vendor with all software added on you system, when you bought it, you can always reinstall from the cd's.
In my case I wipe out all partitions of my brand new Dell and put a better os on it.
On my other Dell, I made a new setup, with the original mswinxp, and made a dual boot with a GNU/Linux.
Have fun.

Indeed, I removed this dell utility partition, I got the postive answer from dell. Thanks however for your answer, and interest.

Cheers, Xavier
