Mouse needs to rotate with screen

I tried rotating the screen on my Toshiba NB205 to portrait to see if it could be used as an ebook reader that way. It has possibilities, but the screen will not open flat.

The interesting part of the exercise, though, was trying to use the touchpad. When xrandr rotates the screen, it really needs to rotate the mouse/touchpad to go with it.

Is there a way to do it (without changing xorg.conf)?

TIA
Jim

... interesting discussion about getting a synaptics touchpad to rotate with xrandr orientation.

for ubuntu 8.10 - there should be a better solution by now.
There are also many threads specific to gentoo for the googling.
The trouble is that most people who want to rotate the touchpad have a tablet pc.
