Mouse moving on its own

HP Omnibook 6000 with a USB mouse.. Old mouse moved on its own, bought new one and it does the same thing. Moves to the upper right corner by itself. Put sensitivity all the way back to essentially 'no sensitivity'.
Any ideas.
This on Hardy Heron 8.04
Pentium III E700mhz, 512k mem. Worked fine until a couple of days ago.
Perhaps and Update.. Don't recall the exact update, but indicated a reboot.

What protocol are you using? Have a look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the mouse area to see.

Here is what it will look like.

Quote:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
EndSection
I'm using ExplorerPS/2 protocol. You need to find out which protocol you should use with the usb mouse. This is for a PS/2 mouse, so I'm suggesting you should not be using it. I have see this type of problem with laptops using a track point mouse.

Mouse moving on its own

Guys, gals,
The mouse was fine before. Wife has used the mouse for over a year suddenly the cursor starts moving all by itself. So, new mouse. Same problem.
So looking at xorg.conf is kinda pointless dont you think?
Im thinking either and update or the USB port is flaky.

So clearly the mice are not the problem.

USB ports cannot fail in such a fashion. It is possible that the pointing device built into the laptop has failed, in which case editing xorg.conf to use only the USB mouse is sensible.

I have a Comapq that did something similar. The problem was the mouse pad on the keyboard. Disable it and give it a try.
