Mouse is moving on its own!
 

I have an old Compaq Armada 7380 DMT (266mhz w/ 128mb ram, and some other dated hardware).
I only have a problem with the mouse. It will move very erratically. It'll move by itself all the time. Just randomly shoot into a corner of the screen or something. Anyways, hp/compaq released a driver for windows that fixes this. As near as I can tell all it does is will find when it moves with constant motion for a few seconds and then just move it in the opposite direction, this will make it stay still. This works well enough (even though it is a pretty shitty way to fix a problem). Does anyone know of a driver/patch for linux that does the same?

Ah, mice are cheap. Just, get a new one already?

This is a problem I have seen under Windows with this model of laptop. My company had Compaq involved and, barring a complete reinstall, all Compaq could suggest was to reinstall the mouse driver. Have you been to Compaq/HPs website and looked for Linux drivers?

Also worth looking on their forums as I think this may have been addressed.

I haven't seen this issue posted yet (or a fix anyways) :( It's a hardware issue too. Reinstalling does nothing :( Doesn't work on windows, linux, anything. HPs "fix" is just a hack job, since its a hardware problem. I was just wondering if there is a similar fix for linux.
Caeda, it's a slow computer, the only reason I keep it around is because it's the only laptop I have. If I was to use a mouse it would defeat the purpose of having a laptop. I would rather just use my 3.5GHz comp.

I just thought I would say that my Mouse on my thinkpad does the same.. somtimes.. while moving the mouse, when I stop moving the mous myself, the mouse keeps moving.. I guess you are not the only person to have that happen...

Ya, I have heard of some other laptops with similar problems (i have a g-spot btw). Pisses me off though. Compaq had to have known about this problem, apparently it is quite common with this model. I got this laptop for Univ. just so I could write stuff in the library and other places aside from my dorm. But it is pointless without a mouse!

Just carry around an external mouse.. they are not that much trouble if you are working at a table..

ya, I have been using a little external mouse. I decided to try and find a small optical mouse so it works on all surfaces... :(

my mouse does the same sometimes, i don't touch it and it will start moving by itself when i touch it stops, i don't really mind and it's kind of funy

Of course we have walmarts. They are the biggest coporation in North America, they have stores in every town from here to florida.
My mouse keeps moving. I have to fight with it just to get it to go where I want.

I figured you had Wal-Marts.. yeah you can get those mini-laser mice at Wal-Mart, for not very much at all..

are you certain it's completly a hardware problem?

i know a known hardware problem is just that, but sometimes things get twisted.. have you tried it with gpm, gpm + x, all mouse types in x and kernel, etc.?

yes the thinkpad dot mice are infamous for moving on there own, usually in relation to system load, memory and other things. but it's not quite the same as 95se describes thinkpads generally just scroll around the screen slowly.. if anyone found a different experience with a thinkpad please post it.

I have a dell latitude c800. Mouse does the same thing every so often. I "fix" it by unplugging the keyboard assembly from the mother board, plug it back in and it works perfectly for a while (a month or two) then the cycle repeats. I finally concluded these laptops dont have the kick ass frame assemblies they should for being moved around so much. Its a pain in the butt but it does fix it for me. I think things jar around a bit causing the keyboard to move and the mouse to wander. Next is a G4 15" with Linux :)

Even when my thinkpad mouse does that, it only moves up on the screen alittle bit, and then it stops. I mean its not excessive (is that the right word to use?) on my thinpad. I guess different people have different stories, and I guess what also matters is how old the computer is, and how much it has been used.

For the apples I have never heard that happen, since they have the touchpad mice..
