Monitor doesn't turn on after suspend-to-ram

I am on a dv4040us hp laptop running ubuntu 6.06. The driver I am using for my graphics card is i810. My card is an intel graphics media accelerator 900 with 128mb shared memory. When I go to suspend it looks like it is working fine but when I wake up my computer my monitor doesn't turn on. I can hear the system sounds, and I can actually login by knowing where I am by the sounds, but I cant see anything. I just have a black screen. Please help me. I have posted this in many forums and nobody has helped. This is an extremely important function I need and I completely switch from windows to linux without this working.

Well, a funny workaround goes first: try setting in your bios some password which must be entered after any kind of power on (including suspend).

Really, I guess you have X running, right? So you can try suspending-to-ram with prepared xterm, and after it (blindly..) type 'xset dpms force on' in it - and run the command. Of course DPMS must be enabled in your xorg.conf (I guess it is, but check /etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/xorg.conf). If it works - maybe properly configured xscreensaver will help; otherwise you can write a script which will run this command every minute in background (no, you'll probably won't have to wait this minute) - ask for help.
