Question Module ds not found

hi boys and girls - peace tux,

well -- it is my first post here @t linuxquestions.org, trying to to it correct

Hardware
Laptop (gericom Hydra speed AMD500)
arch: 500MHz AMD K6/3
Distri: gentoo1.4

I'm trying to compile the gentoo-2.6.2 kernel (actuel portage), but i cannot get my network card get to work
When the System comes up i can see an error message which says:
FATAL: Module ds not found

So, I rebooted with my stable kernel 2.4 to see the modules by using lsmod.
... found that my stable kernel2.4 loads a module call ds which my 2.6 doesn´t.
I searched in the kerneloptions (make xconfig) for a option to like ds, couldn't find it.

I also searched the www and groups, couldn't find any hint WHAT the fu..ing ds.o is called in xconfig, menuconfig or in the .config it self.

-------------------------------------------------
The sintoms are that my card is up, using ifconfig to check it.
the card also got power
but if i try to ping any machine in my net IT LOOKs like some think is wrong with the cable.
a ping to localhost (or to the host itself) works.
-------------------------------------------------

... I recompiled the kernel with pcmcia modular - like in the gentoo forum dicribed and i don't get this error message anymore -BUT....

My mainprobem is still the same --- My pcmcia network card is up, seeing it by ifconfig -- but i cannot ping any machine in my network - but the laptop itself.

PS: i set no iptables rule jet -- so forget about it

Thank you for helping me

Hey LooOOooM

So ... think about what you said there...
-snip-
PCMCIA/CardBus support
( => ... To compile this driver as modules, choose M here: the modules will be called pcmcia_core and ds. )
-snap-
The best you could do 'd be to go through your 2.6 kernel config and check all networking options ... again and again. I bet you forgot an essential thing...

With best regards,
