modem detection frustration

I have a Toshiba satellite 2455-S305 and have been trying out some live distros
whenever I go to detect my modem it isn't listed , I found out it unfortunately for
me is a winmodem : ( . I've been wanting to make the switch over from windows
to Linux for some time now and I can't find any downloadable drivers for my modem. I just recently got a copy of Linux Format that had with it Mandrake 10.0
I was wondering if anyone knew that it had drivers that could fix this problem or do I just have to break down save up and buy a compatable external modem ?

thanks for the help , when I googled it I got no results found for it. Is there a spot that where I could download the driver , burn it and load once I do my install?

you might want to try a 'generic' driver instead. Try this site for instructions for the 'lucent' winmodem (I've used it successfully for my NetComm modem):

Those linuxant drivers never did work for me. Or rather, it would work for a whole 5 minutes and then drop offline again. If you ever get your modem to work, good job, but you may just have to bite the bullet and buy an external modem.
