Just installed Mint in my Dell Inspiron, but internet hardware isn't detected. Enable networking is checked on taskbar internet connect icon. I'm connected thru a DSL that works well in another computer. Can you please help? Mint is too integrated to the internet, not to have access to it. Here is my laptop specs...Thanks!
Distribution: Primarily Deb/Ubuntu, and some CentOS

Broadcom network card drivers didn't use to come with the Linux Kernel before, I don't know if they do now or not.
I'd say try these steps int he first link below but you cant get to the internet on your machine. But, you can download the files need manually on another computer, put them on a flash drive and put the flash drive in your mint computer and install that way.
Though I'm not running Mint. I have the exact same laptop. The LAN port works, it's the Wifi that doesn't work. If that's the case for you, it's because the WiFi card firmware is missing. The b43 driver needs to feed the firmware to the card. This link might help you: http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.co...m-bcm4318.html
hardware older than 10years - broadcom wifi requires non-free firmware - was not supported back when the laptop was new - does not miraculously work out of the box
is bad news.
i'm sure it can be done manually - with lots of searching and command-line work.
but, imho, chances of success still slim.
As ongte already mentioned, it's probably a firmware issue. You can download the necessary using a computer with internet access, then copy the files across with a memory stick. Then install it as explained here
I had a similar problem with getting wireless going on my 2008 vintage HP laptop (running Linux Mint Cinnamon) just yesterday. First I got an Ethernet connection to the net. I went to the Control Center in Mint's menu. Then under Groups, I clicked on Internet and Network. Under System, I clicked on Driver Manager. A window opened. As far as I recall, there was a button for getting the firmware for my Broadcom wireless card. That did the trick.
I hope this is clear enough. I did not write down good notes, and the laptop is several miles away.
