Broadcom network card drivers didn't use to come with the Linux Kernel before, I don't know if they do now or not.

I'd say try these steps int he first link below but you cant get to the internet on your machine. But, you can download the files need manually on another computer, put them on a flash drive and put the flash drive in your mint computer and install that way.

instructions:
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/379

These are the file downloads according to the above site:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/b43-fwcutter
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/k...-b43-installer

Also, This LQ user got it working. Follow links in thread

Though I'm not running Mint. I have the exact same laptop. The LAN port works, it's the Wifi that doesn't work. If that's the case for you, it's because the WiFi card firmware is missing. The b43 driver needs to feed the firmware to the card. This link might help you: http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.co...m-bcm4318.html

this combination:

hardware older than 10years - broadcom wifi requires non-free firmware - was not supported back when the laptop was new - does not miraculously work out of the box

is bad news.

i'm sure it can be done manually - with lots of searching and command-line work.
but, imho, chances of success still slim.

As ongte already mentioned, it's probably a firmware issue. You can download the necessary using a computer with internet access, then copy the files across with a memory stick. Then install it as explained here

I had a similar problem with getting wireless going on my 2008 vintage HP laptop (running Linux Mint Cinnamon) just yesterday. First I got an Ethernet connection to the net. I went to the Control Center in Mint's menu. Then under Groups, I clicked on Internet and Network. Under System, I clicked on Driver Manager. A window opened. As far as I recall, there was a button for getting the firmware for my Broadcom wireless card. That did the trick.

I hope this is clear enough. I did not write down good notes, and the laptop is several miles away.

I blogged about it.

First off. In Mint.
You have.

Code:
mintwifi
follow the prompts to get info.

2nd.

after bootup in mint. Mint has

Code:
dmesg | tail
to tell you what exactly is going on with your wifi on bootup.

3rd:

Code:
lspci -knn
is in Mint to identify better your specs on your wifi card. Mine for example.

Code:
$ lspci -knn
<snip>
06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [168c:002b] (rev 01)
	Subsystem: Askey Computer Corp. Device [144f:7167]
	Kernel driver in use: ath9k
You should have inxi in Mint also so post

Code:
inxi -Fxz
Lastly, my blog entry here

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ireless-35655/

But until we establish exactly what you are running Exactly. I'd wait and see before passing judgement.

Edit: Your inxi in your original thread starter post is weirder and older than mine?

Code:
$ inxi -Fxz

Have you at least ran a update yet online with your hardline connection?

Code:
sudo apt-get update
