minimal word processor
What is a resonable minimal word processor for use on an old P2 laptop. Im using Zenwalk and they now include Open Office 3 which is cumbersomeand takes ages to load. They used to include Abiword which is ok but I am not wild about it. I fing the gui a bit kinda jumpy. Is there something simple but not too rustic?

Did you ever try using Softmaker's Textmaker-free-2005 ?
(( http://www.softmaker.com/english/of_en.htm )) It is proprietary ... small .. and very fast, has excellent compatibility with .doc files. Example link ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/suse/sus...25-10.i586.rpm The rpm can be extracted, and used on any Linux. Zenwalk : rpm2tgz <...rpm> ..... |
Other than what was just mentioned, I saw some other posts and threads in other forums, and when asked for a lightweight word processor or giving a list of lightweight word processors, the sites and posts I saw pretty much all pointed to AbiWord ...

If'n you wanna go real lite on stuff
Tonycore 2.2 with abiword, opera, flash10, OSS stereo, XFE file manager XFW (notepad) and maybe some other stuff would be sub 75mb, maybe sub 50mb and run nice too I can hook you up with a "writer's" edition I been working on one for a week now other stuff tc offers is openoffice, siag office(smaller than abi) and some other offic apps their alwasy adding stuff so it's hard to keep up:) I can hook you up with both iso and usb if you want? |
I use Tinycore as a recscue disk. Fits on a mini-cd! Im kind of hooked on Slackware though. Cant get off the stuff. How is Siag? Is it good n usable? Im also going to look at Softmakers Textmaker. Sounds interesting. Im keeping an eye on Abiword. Gnumeric is great though Abiword not quite there. (IMHO)
What about a stand-alone word processor. Oh well I may have to stick to ABiword. |

Textmaker : I would say 'stand alone',
only depending on X : Code:
[knudfl@localhost ~]$ cd '/opt/textmaker' And though some limitations, it handles the basics equal to or better than Ooo and MS Word. ..... |
