memory upgrade problem Toshiba P100-194 opensuse

I have 2 identical 1GB DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 RAM memory sticks I want to use with my laptop Toshiba P 100-194 with opensuse 10.2
There are no problems when booting with one stick (1GB), but using both (2GB) it has its troubles. I can't boot at all with the default boot option, but I noticed with the failsafe option it boots but I won't have networking. After try and error I reduced the necessary parameters to acpi=off nosmp to add to the default option to get it working BUT STILL NO NETWORKING!
Please help me to resove the issue!

Have you verified both sticks actually work by trying to use each of them alone? It could always be the second one is bad.

I exchanged the sticks to see if it would make any difference (even the probability is very low since the bios recognizes both and they r bootable under winXP and opensuse failsafe) and vola the other one is working to by its own - no difference at all! Both r from the same manufacturer (Corsair) since I bought them both at the same time.
