Question Mediocre audio w/ SLED 10 on HP dv8000t

I have a HP dv8000t notebook on which I was using to evaluate Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 on. The system runs great. There are some things that bugged me that keep me from using it as my main system though.

When I installed it, maybe I didn't check a few key packages. I booted the system and opened Amarok but it wouldn't play MP3s! I have never had that problem before. So I had to add the pacman repository and download some xine things.

Here is my main problem:
This laptop as you can see from the specs below, has built in Altec Lansing speakers and it has the HDaudio (which I'm not exactly familiar with yet.) Well the audio quality is pretty amazing... When I'm using windows! When I installed SLED 10, I saw it detected some sort of HDaudio stuff but even so. When I play music and whatnot, the quality isn't that great. I can't even turn it up that much at all! It can only go to like 30% of the volume I can get in windows!

Do you have any idea what is the problem here?

Here are the specs:

HP dv8000t

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2600 (2.16 GHz)
Video:
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
Memory:
2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM
Hard drive:
240 GB 5400 RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120 GB x 2)
Optical:
Super Multi 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
Networking:
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
Speakers:
Built-in Altec Lansing stereo speakers
Sound:
Conexant High Definition Audio

Thanks for your help!

I have the same problem with Compaq V3035TU. The audio quality is amazing when played in windows but in Linux (I have tried Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and SuSE 10.1) the audio breaks and it cannot attain the maximum volume. Also on plugging in a headphone the speaker doesn't mute. I assume it is a driver problem.

Please help.
