HELP PLEASE !! Mandriva 2007 install Problem SCSI errors

Hi

I am having a problem upgrading my Mandriva 2006 to Mandriva 2007, i will detail the specs on the laptop and then jump in to the problem that i am having

Laptop Specs

Sony Vaio VGN S560P
1.5G RAM
100G Disk (Split With Windows 12G and the rest for Mandriva 2006)
Wireless Intel Card (cant remmber the card name but i can find out if need)

Problem

I installed Mandriva 2006 using the alt1 kernel because i had the same problem as installing Mandriva 2007 which alt1 kernel does not fix the problem.

During the install while watching the terminal window error's occur about sda5 (Root Linux File System)

ata1 error occured , port reset
status = 0x01 {error}
caled wit no error 01
scsi error: <0 0 0 0> return code=0x8000002
sda current sense key 0x3 asc = oxc ascq=0x2
end_request: i/o error,dev sda sector 51430404
buffer I/O error on device sda5 logical Block
last page write due to I/O error on sda5
assertion failed! qc -> flags & ata_qcflag-archive,scsi/li
scsi error: <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x800000
current sense key =0x3
asc=oxc asc0=0x2 end_request : I/O error,dev,sda
lost page write due to I/O
buffer I/O error on device sda5 error on sda5

i have searched the web and i cant really find anything that matches the error that i am seeing , i dont think its a error on disk like bad sectors or something like that, at a guess i think that linux is not reading the disk information correctly. This was also a problem in linux 2006 but i fixed it by booting the alt1 kernel which solved the problem and dont see any error in my running kernel.

thanks for any help or possible fixes on this in advance, also if you can recommend any other way to upgrade to mandriva 2007 i can give that a try as well

Thanks

Al.
