mandriva 2006 ATI express 200 driver problem

I have installed mandriva 2006 on my laptop evverything works perfeclty but when I logout the x server breaks and the only thing i can do is restart the computer, well, i downloaded the latest Ati driver off the website but the x server dosn't come up , there is just a blank screen, I checked the website and apparantly the new driver is not compatible with 2.6.12-12mdk which i have installed, I also followed the instruction on the website but i couldn't get it up and running maybe because the instructions weren't for mandrake well right now Im not able to have a 3D acceleration...can anybody help me on this please...?

thank you
