Mandrake w/ Kernel 2.6.2 and ThinkPad 600E -- PCMCIA and sound issues
 

Ok, I've been using Mandrake Linux for several years now, since about 6.5. I had Mandrake 9.1 installed on my ThinkPad 600E fine, with the only problem being that sound did not work (common problem, by the looks of it.)

I finally decided to upgrade it and get some new software on it, so I downloaded and installed Mandrake 10.0 Beta2. After resolving some annoying kernel panic problems, I then am able to boot it.

However, while the sound now works by default with the 2.6.2 kernel, the PCMCIA does not. This seems to be because Linux is making the sound card run on IRQ 11, which is the same IRQ that the PCMCIA slots use. As a result, I am unable to get any network cards working.

I then tried installing the 2.4 kernel package, and tweaked the files in /boot to get both kernels to live together peacefully. Even with modules.conf tweaked to specify IRQ 5 for the sound card, running 'cat /proc/pci' tells me that the sound card is STILL using IRQ 11, and on top of that it won't work. The PCMCIA slots work under the 2.4 kernel, but while cards have power and are recognized, I simply cannot load the drivers for them.

I've considered filing a bug report on qa.mandrakesoft.com, but decided to check here first because Linux just seems to be allergic to the sound on the 600 series.

Any ideas as for what I can do to get that damned card to either share with my PCMCIA or just get it back to IRQ 5 where it belongs? I've run ps2.exe from DOS mode and set the card to IRQ 5 with no effect... still haven't tried flashing the BIOS yet though.
