Hi I am trying mandrake linux on my dell laptop and I can not get the sound to work no matter what I do. Ive visited many sites and tryed what they had to offer in the way of fixes but it hasn't worked yet. So please guys help me out here I really want to give linux a fighting chance (I don't really want to go back to windows)
So what's the error when you try to modprobe the Alsa driver (snd-cs4232), and the OSS (cs4232) driver? We need more information, we can't just guess. As far as I know it may be working but your volume is at zero, or whatever.
Use harddrake 2 for sound issues, there is also redhat sound tool of some sort on the install disks that you could try if it fails. if this doesn't work, then you use modprobe (my opinion, not the law)
