Mandrake Installation Travelmate 240!

HI!

I'm a newbie to Linux! I have an Acer Travelmate 240 and I wanted to install Linux Mandrake 9.0; well I inserted the CD1 in the CD-ROM drive, set up the CD BOOT from Bios and restarted the machine. I get the first screen where I press <enter> to begin installation and then I get only a black screen...what possibly could be?

Thank you men!

Oh well it's quite new, I bought it in November 2003.

It's a 2.4Ghz Celeron, with 40Gb HDD, DVD ROM/CD-R/RW Writer; it's really strange the problem I get.

Mandrake linux 9.0 is pretty old, why not try 9.2 or the new 10.0 release?

Oh well, probably I will get Mandrake 9.2 or Fedora Core soon.

Thanx!

bad news

it won't work... i'v been through this with several distros on the same laptop and tried various boot options and the kernel simply won't boot (text, failsafe - you name it). the only distro i could get to boot and install was Suse (currently using Suse 9.0 pro). i may have got slackware to boot and install also but i can't remember. hopefully the 2.6 kernel will not have the same problem!

I GOT IT!

Simply I did this: when the graphic interface starts, I press F1. I then press F2 and select one of the alternative kernel by giving the command "alt0" or "alt1" or "alt2"; for now I only tried "alt1" but I think it'll work with other kernels.

I hope this helps!

Beppe
