Mandrake ACPI 10.0 help
 

I have successfully loaded the ACPI, but it causes my laptop to sometimes make a high pitched sound which becomes pretty annonying after some time. I have found out it has something to do with the thermal/processor from ACPI when I do a remmod and pull out the thermal and processor the sound goes away. I then modified the acpi start script to no longer load it and I never get the noise. Do I need these options? I mainly want ACPI to monitor my battery. Also how do I change the speed of the processor. I have tried doing a modprobe speedstep-centrino and it loads it fine, but I only have userspace and performance as governors, any ideas on what happened to powersave?? Any help would be appreciated

I'm having the same problem on my Acer Travelmate 803LCi, with a Pentium M 1.6GHz.

Some people told me the noise has something to do with the new idle-frequention of the 2.6 kernels: 1kHz instead of 100Hz of the 2.4 kernels.

If I don't load those thermal & processor modules, I feel my laptop's getting much warmer; so I load them anyway...
When trying to get rid of that noise, I downloaded and installed the newest 2.6.5 kernel, and I compiled it especialy for the Pentium M with Enhanced Speedstep (also especialy for Pentium M), but the sound's still there as before :(

If there isn't any solution, I think I'll be forced to go back to a 2.4 kernel ...

Can someome please help! I have a Compaq Presario 2100 (AMD), I am using Mandrake 10 I have followed all the instructions for ACPI, at start pass the arguments acpi=on. I have installed acpi and acpid. It just hangs at boot giving a blank screen. Please help?

I've heard of someone also running Linux (fedora) on an AMD-laptop, that recompiling your kernel might be a solution.
The standard mandrake-kernel is compiled for all i586-compatible processors, but for none specifically.
Recompiling the kernel specifically for your type of processor (and other needs and hardware of course) may do the trick?

Hi,

I have tried compiling the kernel source, this gave the same error. However, I got it working last night. For some reason in Mandrake when you use the GUI to select ACPI=on and APIC=off, it des not make the right entrys in the lilo/grub file. I manually entered them and success. :)

I've got the same problem, and it seems to be centrino specific (dell 500m 1.4ghz) This annoying noise drives me insane and has been keeping me from upgrading my 2.4 kernel with poor acpi support for months, I am no programmer, PLEASE FIX IT!!! I'll gladly buy a new distro from the wendor who fix this in their distro, is it fixed in the mdk official? does anyone know?
