Hi, I currently have Mandrake 9.2 on a Dell Inspiron 5000 and whenever I start it up it goes into like terminal mode( you know, with the black screen with white letters where you can type in commands) and it dosen't go to the Desktop or anything...It asks for a localhost ID and password,so, I enter my ID and Password,it logs me in and nothing happens it's like it's waiting for me to put in a command or something... Thanks
Eric

When it gets to the point, after you've logged in, where it seems to be waiting for a command, type 'startx'. (but without the quotation marks) Tell us what happens.

Truth is that ATI Mobility Radeon sucks on so many levels!
You could try with some other distro or earlier version of MDK. If you have to save stuff from your HD, download latest version of KNOPPIX. It's a cd-bootable OS and quite stable. Use it to burn your stuff on cd's and you're homefree. Then you can try something else on your laptop. And if you mess things really bad, you've still got Knoppix to run!
