Mandrake 9.2 on Compaq Presario 3000

I am trying to install Mandrake 9.2 on my Presario 3000, but the graphic interface doesn't work. (Text mode does). I have tried all of the XFdrake monitor options.

I vaguely remember something about using a vesa driver, but where would I get it, and how would I install it?

I am running a Presario 2195us and this is what I did.

When you are in text mode, become root and type

XFree86 -configure
XFree86 -xf86config
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config

When you see the blank screen with the x cursor, hit ctrl-alt-backspace key

Reboot and it should load up vesa.

later on I did some research and found that I could use the Generic LCD Panel 1024X768
