Mandrake 9.2 freezes when screen is closed
I have turned off every acpi related thing I can find (the one in lilo, unintstalled acpi and acpid) and the second I close the lid the comp freezes, this happens at any point during booting or running. It did not happen with 9.1. Any ideas?

log in as root, and remove "/etc/acpi/events/lid" That 'lid' file has made mine freeze quite often.. it's attempting to suspend to disk, and even in u uninstalled acpi, it's going to try through APM, and I've found it can muck everything up. I say remove that, then put ACPI back in... since you prolly want ACPI if you're using this thing like a portable...
The reason it doesn't do it in 9.1 is because 9.2 has ' better acpi support', which includes freezing you're computer whenever you close the lid, appearantly.

Thanks, I'll do that.
I was thinking about using acpi but I have never gotten it to work. I guess now I don't need to install the acpi and acpid packedges? So to use it all I have to do is turn it on in the boot and change the files in etc/acpi ?

Actuall, you need both acpi and acpid installed. Instal those, and then in lilo.conf, put acpi=on in the lin with all he other kernel parameters (things like acpi=ht, and al that jazz)... Although, word of warning. On some laptops, Mine included, acpi in that kernel is broken. The laptop will not boot if u say "acpi=on". My solution is to copy the entry for you're mandrake in lilo.conf, give it a new name (under label= ) and then put acpi in that. Test it, see if it works, and then if it does, add it to you're lilo entry, and then delete the other one. If it doesn't, you can load the kernel from mandrake 9.2 RC2 and it works fine (that's what I did). Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.

Okay I tried, but I am getting the same problem I was a while ago (acpi says /proc/acpi/event doesn't exist) I tried to tell it to look in the /etc/acpi/event directory but it doesn't like that and complains that a battery file doesn't exist. I always thought the acpi files were auto created though. What to do now? Thanks for the help btw.

Oops, still had apm running, now it loads without errors.
Now all the /proc/acpi/ files are empty (0 bytes total) though....
