Question Mandrake 9.1 + Toshiba Tecra 8100 problems with kde?

Hello.

I just installed Mandrake 9.1 to my laptop. Installation went well and nothing problems did'nt occur.

Then i booted my computer and it started to load linux. It loaded it and then came the wizard for first start. I chosed to run as kde. After that it loads something for about 5 minutes and then this message came; Can't create IO-Slave, Too many open files, can't start. It hangs there. I can go to "console" and use it from there but still i would like to use kde.

I hope someone can help me and i know this is not so big problem, but my brains don't know what to do.

Before i installed mandrake i used Windows XP and it run well.

Little more information:

I used automatic partitioning (there is now root, swap and boot)

After installation i tested that graphical enviroment will work with drivers i chose. Only thing is that my graphic gard is SavageS3/mx and i had to chose xfree 3.... something because it did'nt work with xfree 4.3

Computer specs:
Pentium III 500 MHZ
384 sdram
6 gb hardisk
floppy
cd-rom
...

And thanks to everyone who can help me.

Just a hint. I am using Red Hat 9 with Toshiba 8100. Installation was eventless. Perhaps you should try that. KDE works without problems. I am using XFree86 4.3. I also upgraded to KDE 3.2.1 and it also works.

Hi, I have installed mandrake 10 with kde - all is fine but the monitor is not set right - with the default setting the screen display was miniature. What monitor setting did you choose?
