Mandrake 10.1 on Inspiron 1000

I am installing Mandrake 10.1 on my Dell Inspiron 1000 and I cannot get the graphics setup right. Whenever I try to test configuration during setup it goes crazy. I can load into console but when I attempt to go into KDE I get a blank screen. How do I set this up??

I got Mandrake 10.0 to work fine but even trying to upgrade Mandrake 10.1 didn't display anything but console

I've had the same problem. I fixed it by using the console and running XF86Config (I've forgotten where it is in the system, though). Anyway, it allows you to manually configure the monitor. Just answer the questions correctly and it will work. You will have to figure out how much video memory you have (my Dell Inspiron 1000 has 64Mb on a SiS M650), the refresh rate (horizontal and vertical), and the optimal resolution. You can choose 1024x768 with 24-bpp, if you want. Make sure to select Generic VGSA 1024x768 at 70 Hz as your monitor, and make sure to select Generic VGA Graphics card (SiS M650 won't be an option)
