Mandrake 10.1 and Compaq presario

Hi!

I've installed Mandrake 10.1 official edition on my Compaq Presario R3000 Laptop. The entire installation goes like a dream. The problems start after installing the system. When Mandrake is about to load the login window, the computer stops working and stalls. I'm then left without GUI and only with a blue background and the mousepointer. I installed the official Nvidia driver, correctly. I even get the Nvidia splashscreen. No matter what I do the computer will stall at the same point. Any ideas?

Graphics card: Nvidia 4 420 (32mb)
Processor: AMD Athlon XP-M

Thanks

Panzerjohn
