Mandrake 10.0 Official + pavilion n5295 = crash n burn

I've got a stock HP Pavilion n5295 laptop with a semi fried screen or video card. The card works fine under windows and is only a minimal irritation in Linux because the resolution can't go above 800x600 16 bit. I've previously had Mandrake 8.2, 9.whatever, Red Hat 9 all successfully.

My problem is that the Mandrake 10 installer locks up right at the end of the installation, immediately after it asks if I want to make any updates. I select 'no' and then the screen freezes. I can restart into what looks like a solid fresh install of Mandrake at the command prompt, but no X. I can't remember what the exact error message I get is, but it's something like folders and/or files needed by X don't exist. I searched the path and it's there all right. Sorry in advance about the abysmal error message description, I'll post it as soon as i get back home from work :P.

Has anyone else had the Mdk 10 Official install crash right at the end, seemingly taking X down with it?

Thanks in advance!

ok, the error im currently getting is the following:

xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xinit: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I saw that other people had similar errors, but i cant seem to find a solution. It seems that everything else is working fine, except for X. I think that this is more useful than "some file said something"

Thanks again for the help!

SOLUTION:

Here's what I did to fix the problem:

1. boot computer, let it drop you to the command prompt
2. log in as root
3. type ldconfig, hit enter
4. type startx, hit enter

bingo, X is back in business!
