mageia not detecting sound card on toshiba satellite m115

I can't get Mageia to detect my sound card. It worked fine in Mandriva 2010.2. I loaded Mageia and everything else worked great, just no sound. Is there an alternative driver I can use. When I go to the sound configuration interface, it tells me I have intel hda driver "snd_hda_intel" and the hardware configuration area tells me IXP 4x0 High Definition Audio Controller. I did the troubleshooting commands, but am not experienced enough to know what to do with the answers. I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.

Do you have any entries in /dev/snd/ directory?

If you open a konsole, and enter 'lsmod | grep snd' ( without the quotes ) do you get anything listed?

Do you have Pulse Audio enabled? I had a tom of problems in Mandriva 2010 and the only way I got sound was to disable it. Now that I have Magia installed, sound worked for me with PA enabled.

I understand. Remember, I can not see your system.

Would you please run the command 'lsmod | grep snd' and copy the output, and paste it into the thread. Then we'll know what driver you have loaded.

I would like to know the status of Pulse Audio. Go into MCC, look at the hardware section, there should be an icon there to allow you to show and configure sound on the system. There is check box for Pulse Audio. There should also be icons to look at volume, and where the output is being directed. Have a look there.

I would also suggest disabling Pulse, and restart the system. Then try sound again. Look for a mixer application, like alsamixergui or kmix. Make sure you are not muted.

Have you open a terminal as root and type 'alsamixer', without the quotes, to see if Master is not muted? If it is press the M key to unmute it. Then type 'alsactl store' to save it.

Just a thought.
