Question lots of questions, please help me learn

I have never really used linux so thi sis a total learning experience for me. i have been scouring forums everywhere and can't find complete answers and i am going nuts....

Ok, here is my situation, i have a dell latitude d600 which i have Redhat 9 installed on. Everything is fine if I wanted to use it as a normal computer that is.

My problems are as follows.

1) The modem doesn't work right apparantly i have this for a modem Conexant D480MDC. I have gone to the Linuxant page and gotten a driver and sometimes it inits and sometimes it does't. So what dialing program should i use for the modem to connect to my isp?, and how should i go about configuring it? Or would i be better of getting a PCMCIA modem, if so please recommend one.

2) Wireless access is also needed. So i have a wp11 card. I am going to try this out this afternoon. But How can linux decide what network device to use to connect to the internet. Like on windows...if not connection is present and you try to open a webpage it will attempt to establish one for you.

3) for some reason the keyboard is mismapped. Its using the US settings but the # and the " keys are mapped wrong. How do i fix this?

Thanks for any help provided, its very much appreciated.

I don't have any experience with the hardware you're talking about, neither do I know RedHat 9, but here's a suggestion: Browse the message archives at the Yahoo Group linux-dell-laptops. Also register there so you can post. There's a lot of helpful people there.
