Lost desktop menu-Linux Mint 11

While attempting to install KMyMoney manually; I have lost my desktop menu. Inspiron 64bit, gnome desktop was there, icons are present, no system tray, no date/time display, wlan wigget (not sure what it is called) not there. Was working in SUDO, terminal mode and every since Mint has not worked. There has been error messages about some applet stopped working, delete or continue (?), was my choices. If I deleted it - not sure - how do I get it restored. This hard drive is dual boot with Windows 7 & Linux Mint 11. I attempted to retore function where you select which system to boot. Still no menu. Tried to retore older linux and no change. I'm not good in terminal mode, unless the directions are clearly defined. Any suggestions?
John

Thank YooY: That did it!!! Thank you so much. I was worried someone would say to re-install.
Sincerely,
