Looking for Linux Friendly Laptop

I'm in the market for a laptop and would like to spend $700-1100. I've been looking at the HP's but don't know if they are going to support Linux or not. Any suggestions? What about Toshiba's or Dell's?

you could just buy a computer with Ubuntu from dell

Wow, I didn't realize Dell packaged Ubuntu with their systems. I see that they come with 7.04. Would 6.06 run on the system as well? I'm torn on whether to start running 6.06 because of it is supported until 2009. I've been running 6.10 (Edgy) for 8 months and love it. Is there much difference between 6.06 and 7.04?

Finally I see that dell doesn't offer the 17" screen or the XPS laptops. Would one of these laptops work with a Linux distro If I were to purchase one of these?

6.06 is pretty old, 7.04 has better support for newer hardware, you might have some trouble getting 6.06 to recognize the hardware on it, Its not really worth the trouble 7.04 is pretty stable
