Looking for a distribution suitable for old laptop

Hello

I have Thinkpad R40
intel pentium 1.4 GHz
250 MB RAM
40G HDD

I've got it with old XP ( SP1) and installed Ubuntu 9.1
surprisingly things went well and it's working - i can surf, watch movies but there are issues with the graphics. I was told that it's due to the old chipset and low RAM.

I'm looking for a distribution that is user friendly, will allow me to surf the net, watch movies and do other simple things on this machine.

thanks

Puppy Linux has a good range of different 'Puplets' suitable for older hardware. Also Damn Small Linux(DSL) is small and lightweight, it too is suitable for older hardware.

A little quality time with the Slackbook and you can be a Slacker too!

I tested out one of those "Puplets" called browserlinux the other day, as far as I can tell it's what the eeepc's run. I was shocked to see youtube working flawlessly (even running from a usb stick!) on a machine that is usually jerky to say the least. It doesn't have much to it, but just for surfing and playing media files it's pretty slick. It's defaults are also very easy on the graphics it seems.
