logitech mx510 mouse with synaptics touchpad

I was wondering if I should have two seperate entries for my mx510 mouse and my synaptics touchpad in my xorg.conf?
I've been having problems trying to get the back and forward side buttons working... and suddenly noticed that there was only two InputDevice entries in my xorg.conf, one for my keyboard and the other for my mouse:

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver "kbd"
  Identifier "Keyboard[0]"
  Option "Protocol" "Standard"
  Option "XkbLayout" "us"
  Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
  Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver "mouse"
  Identifier "Mouse[1]"
  Option "Buttons" "10"
  Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
  Option "Name" "Logitech Mx510"
  Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2"
  Option "Vendor" "Sysp"
  Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas/solutions on how to get the mx510 side buttons working? I've tried using xev, and there is no detected output for the two side buttons...? Should I possibly have two mouse entries? one for my touchpad and one for my mx510?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
