list of handhelds good for linux?

hi, isn't linux tight? Though I would change the mascot. Who likes a frozen chicken as a mascot? I'm kidding. Anyway, What I need is a list of known powerful handhelds that have linux ported to them. I'm looking for a handheld that lends itself well to gamming and also video in addition to providing an environment similar to a PC. Pocket PC and PalmOS like shells are about as lovable as a Matrix sequel.

I'm inlove with handhelds like the oQo and ultra small notebooks. But I had the realization yesterday that I don't need windows on a handheld when linux is on everything.

I was hoping for linux on the PSP, and I came across the site: psp-linux dot org

To quote that site...

"if we have any problems with fanboys/droolers, we will delete the mailing list from public view, and continue development privately."

Now that sounds like middleschool mentality, so I wonder if these guys are legitimate.

also the following site: linux-mips dot org

In the "Linux support" section:

"There is none and there won't be any despite some people's foolish claims and attempts. The hardware lacks a TLB and as such is too primitive to run a real Linux kernel. µClinux would be a potential alternative but that would mean no binary compatibility with existing Linux/MIPS."

What does that mean in regard to running linux on the PSP? And if this is a huge barrier, could we not use linux on top of software reworked and derived from the Bochs emulator, so instead of emulating a PC, its just used to emulate the portions of a PC that a psp doesn't provide?

I invite everyone's opinion and insights, aslong as they are not direct criticism of me.
thanks!

I should hope this website gets enough hype from all the new interest in Linux handhelds. www.handhelds.org is the only place I have come across with decent information about Linux development for handheld devices. I hope it can help you continue your search, but this really is a new area of development. I'd recommend lending a hand if you are knowledgeable enough (I'm not, but working towards it).

Regards,

Alunduil

Many thanks alunduil. Handhelds dot org is a great site, much help. I've been drooling over the PSP for a long time, only holding off for the GP2X which isn't holding my interest at this point. However, I was wondering, has anyone ported Linux to the palm 1044NA ? I would love to use that with linux.

Department of Physics and astronomy? I should send you guys a letter of complaint. Yesterday I fell and hit my head. the only culprit could be GRAVITY... Going to sue Newton aswell.
