LinuxQuestions.org - Linux tablet desktop environments?

I've got a couple of older Fujitsu tablets (pentium III and older) that I'm tinkering with.

I wanna know if anybody else that has tinkered with linux on tablets have an opinion about which desktop environments are their favourite for this purpose.

So far, I've tinkered with LXDE, GPE, and putting a DE together from scratch using JWM as the base.

I like LXDE on my laptop and desktop, but it isn't as appropriate for a tablet.

GPE seemed pretty tricky to configure. I couldn't really get it to look like it does in the screenshots. Maybe it was just me being impatient, but I also noticed that the GPE website hasn't been updated since 2006.

I used to use Damn Small Linux a lot, so I'm familiar with configuring JWM. I have some ideas on how to use it as the basis of a homebrew table DE, but I'm lazy and would rather just use something someone else has designed.

I thought maybe it would be worthwhile to try installing a Linux distro from one of the Linux netbooks out there. But they tend not to be as easy to install as Debian or Ubuntu.

So far, I've only tried using debian as the base system, but I'm open to trying out other distros if folk have had good success with them on tablets.

Keep in mind: I'm not bad when it comes to scripting and editing config files (re: Damn Small Linux), but I'm also lazy.

If someone out there knows of a "plug-and-play" distro that works well on a Fujitsu Stylistic LT or a Stylistic 3400, I'd much rather just install that and be done with it.

I want a Linux tablet to USE, not just to tinker with.
