Linux screen resolution on HP nc6230

I recently got an HP Compaq nc6230 from work, and it is dual boot with XP and Debian (sid). In XP, screen resolution appears to be 1400x1050. In Linux, however, the screen appears to be locked into 1024x768. I have been through the BIOS settings multiple times, searched the web, where everyone who has tried it has gotten it to work in 1400x1050, and tried everything stated in all of the web pages I have found.

I have an IBM T42, which has a similar screen, and runs an ATI RV 350 (Mobility Radeon 9600 M10). This machine has an ATI M22 (Radeon Mobility M300). I tried using the xorg.conf from that box on this one, as well as the the one from jlinkels' site. I have about hit the wall on this one and hope someone here has the data point that I am missing.

Thanks,

What graphics driver are you using?

fglrx 8.18.6-1 on a 2.6.12 kernel. Sorry...Should have mentioned that.
