Linux Preinstalled on Laptops?
Do any major vendors offer a preinstall distro of Linux on laptop?

Ain't Google great? I don't see any major vendors stepping up yet, but that'll change soon enough. There was a Canadian company that was selling Linux laptops as well. I think they used Toshiba's with Lindows...

saw those but yes we need a supported version from the likes of Dell, Compaq, IBM, etc. This is for a corporate environment and no sane IT Admin would bet their hide on a no name brand of laptop. Can't believe that a major player hasn't tweaked SuSE or RH for a laptop / desktop yet.

Dell was gonna for 2 models about 2 years ago, but changed its mind (likely from OS vendor pressure)

Just came across this thread. There is a company out of Atlanta called EmperorLinux that sells IBM, Sony, and Dell laptops (to name a few) that are preconfigured and ready to go. You can get a chouce of distros such as Fedora, Mandrake and Slackware.

Their website is and they also include 12 months of tech support by (toll free) telephone or email.
