linux on evo1000v

hi! i am an absolute newbie.i was thinking of changing my winxp to linux/mandrake OS.
anyone has a problem with linux on compaq evo1000v? any pitfalls or precaution i should take?

i would greatly appreciate it if someone points me out to a site where i can change my OS to linux on my evo1000v, hardware etc support.
