Linux on Dell D610

Hello All:

First let me start by telling you all that I am a Noob!

With that having been said let me tell you about my situation, I am running a Dell D610 with Fedora Core Version 3 installed, kernel version 2.6.9.12.1376_FC3 which I am in the process of upgrading. The problem I am having is I am unable to get my DVD/CD combo drive to mount, I have other articles with people who have FC3 installed and they aren't having problems with theres any ideas on why this device will not mount?

You may find this site helpful. It doesn't have Dell D610, but it has quite a few links to Dell D600, which I'm sure is similar... this one, for example.

I have worked through the info on Steve's page, as well as a couple of
other pages (http://www.nerdgirl.dk/linux/installation.php#monitor and
http://home.comcast.net/~canez/d610/) but can not get the resolution
above 1024x768 with my intel 915g on a Dell D610.

I'm using RedHat ES 4 EL kernel: 2.6.9-5.EL, Xorg 6.8.99.901.

I've built the latest i810 that I pulled down from dri.freedesktop.org,
and I've also grabbed the i810_drv.o from the link on Steve's page.
Neither one makes a difference.

I've been using the Application->System Settings->Display
(system-config-display applet) to set the resolution to 1400x150.
Strangely, there is also a Application->Preferences->Screen Resolution
(gnome-display-properties applet) that only lists up to 1024x768 for
the resolution ( in a drop down box).

When I use 915resolution and change the 1024x768 to 1400x1050, the screen defaults to 800x600. If I change another resolution, like 800x600, I still don't get 1400x1050. I've also noticed that in the gnome-display-properties dialog, 800x600 disappears from the list.

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated. At this point I don't
know where to look. I pasted the last few lines of my xorg log below.

Thanks,
Herda05
