Linux on a Smartphone?

Has anyone ever had any experience with this?

I've currently got a Orange SPV-C500 (otherwise known as the i-Mate SP3) it currently has a version of windows smartphone on there which is so slow and buggy.

Just wondered if anyone knew of any sites dedicated to putting linux on devices like this? I've had a quick search on the web but can't find anything.

Any help in this area would be appreciated.

Tried google :(

Don't worry about warranty... these phones are £92 for the whole year with 100 minutes cross network calls a month... cheap as chips. That includes the phone etc etc

Hey then you can do it yourself and start a new porject!

Basically you need the cable or blue tooth will also do to get connectivity between linux and phone and then embedded or slashed kernel and then write some cool app it is too much work but it can be done I guess. I will never try that with my phone as phones very expensive here

But to be frank I have no idea about this issue. Only got interest into it by reading your post :)

i have worked with orange ncs( tech support ) who do alot of work with the phone in the uk. we've stripped the os down on the h/s but the phone will not run without signed firmware, we have managed to modify the underlying firmware, it does run alot better ;)

although it was still ms core powering the thing

I appreciate the signed firmware thing but is there anychance you can divulge more details? I'd really love to have a play :D
