linux on a phone??!?


Not sure if its possible but id just like to find information about cell phones and how the OS (if it even has one) works. i duno... i just got some coookee idea of putting a very small distro to get icq to work on tha phone... just saw an verison has aim and was wondering if icq would work, then started wondering if i could program a mini os for a phone.... Would it even get service? I dont know a thing about any of this stuff, just in terested. any documents or faqs manuals... anything ya know... thanks

hmm

im not condoning this, it may violate one of the many liscensing agreements that are often overlooked. anyway, i think a good way to start would be to download the existing OS from the phone somehow, on what it is stored, i have no idea, for some reason i doubt that its in an NFTS of ext3 partition though, so decompiling it would probably be like being a nazi code breaker listening to Navajo tribesmen on the radio .. good luck

I believe that it will be soon possible to have linux in your phone. Embedded Linux is very powerful and some tests have been already successfully done (Can find interesting info about that here ).
Programming your mobile is possible (I don't know how, but it may be possible) but I think that you have to master JAVA which seem to be the reference for mobile's applications.
