[SOLVED] Linux Mint 8 doesn't boot on Acer Netbook

I got a copy of Linux Mint 8 onto my USB key and it installed fine, but whenever I try to boot from GRUB, all I get is a black screen with a blinking white cursor. I suspect it's a kernel installation problem or a GRUB parameter issue, but I can boot Mint perfectly fine in recovery mode.

Any thoughts?

Well, it did turn out to be something with grub. I removed the quiet and splash options and I was able to boot normally. After I applied all of the updates (including the kernel update), I was able to boot normally without having to append any of the grub options.
