I tried with the system's parameters (screen display) but I get only one choice, that is 1440X900 no other possibilities

Here is the startup error:
(Fatal server error Server is already active display 0 If ths server is no loger active, remove /temp/.x0lock and start again. ---------- Post added 10-28-12 at 08:13 PM ---------- I also get a server log file, which is quite longer, if you want I can copy it fir you. |
If you're the only person using your computer, and it's not letting you start X because of it,
then you should be safe to run: Code:
sudo rm /temp/.x0lock |
Thanks,
You'r right it is 'TMP' I tried to remove it but the file was not found. |
Whe I do a system's check,

Have you switched and are now running the system in a virtual machine?
And again, please use code-tags, not fancy colors or anything else to post output of commands. |
No, I am running on the same machine

I migrated from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 never did touch my config. The warning of low graphics mode came when upgrading.
---------- Post added 10-29-12 at 07:15 PM ---------- By the way it was working fine on 12.04 |
In that case I would recommend a clean re-install of 12.10, something got seriously wrong with that upgrade.
|
Thanks,
What would be the best way of doing it? |
Download an Ubuntu 12.10 ISO-image, burn it to a DVD and boot from it into live-mode. Use the live-node to copy any data you want to keep to an external device.
Then simply start the installer. |
thanks very much for your help guys you've been great. I'll let you know the outcome
|
Hi,
I reloaded Ubuntu 12.10 from scratch and everything is working fine. Again thanks a lot |
