Linux Inspiron 1000 Boot Problem

I recently purchased a Dell Insipron 1000 laptop. After splitting the hard drive in half and installing XP on the first partition, I used the second (13gigs) for Mandrake 9.2.

Now, it installed fine, and boots fine, except once it gets to something about APM or some such (I can't tell because it scrolls by too quickly) the machine starts scrolling by ungodly fast with information I can't even read. I Can tell, however, that it contains some references to hex addresses? like c20cddd and such. It will not stop, I've left it on for 2 hours and it's still going.

Can anyone please tell me what I need to do, to get MDK working on this Laptop?

I will provide any info you need.

First of all, your laptop should not be using APM but ACPI instead as all post 1998 computers do. For a temporary fix, try adding some kernel boot parameters to turn off APM or whatever debug messages your're encountering (to do this, boot from your linux install cd or boot disk and go to a shell and then edit /etc/lilo.conf if you use lilo or /boot/grub/menu.lst for grub.

Other than that try using a different kernel.
