Lenovo ideapad 330s ryzen 5 no go on booting usb anything linux
Okay I just got this brand new laptop and swapped out the ssd, had to install Windows 10 - slackware and MX Linux were already installed on this m.2 nvme stick but it is not booting into them, nor are the usb sticks botting, all I am seeing with the both of them is the option to boot, then it just hangs black screen.
no I do not go to the store to prolong my wait state. I let it hang for a good 30ish seconds, whereas FreeBSD just booted, but I am not setup to install that because its installer and it does not have a good dual boot system, one that I figured out how to use anyways. so does anyone have any experience on this AMD cpu/gpu and Linux stuff, I've always used Intel. |
I have 3 Ryzen machines (1700x desktop, 2500u Dell laptop and 2500u Pro Lenovo laptop), 2 of which boot NVMe (desktop and Pro laptop) and none have any issues booting from any of my USB's or NVMe's. I do not, however, use any of the distro's you have tried.
Check the standard things, is secure boot enabled (to my knowledge neither MX nor Slackware has a signed bootloader), is UEFI boot compatibility mode/Compatibility support module enabled (it shouldn't be), is fast boot enabled (disables USB boot). |

First disable Secure Boot. Also at boot add noapic to boot options (press E at boot) after vmlinuz. |
kubunutut sucks for this laptop wifi support blah a i got that installed no wifi, help says to git clone a drive make make install so I got that from my other laptop put the source code in and make... nope no make installed on that distro... blahh catch 22 ... kubuntu 18.04 that installed without a hitch and seems to run great from what little i did with it, but no wifi..
if and when I get something else booting into the install does that issue get taken care of during install, or am I to expect issues booting it after it is installed and have to do this again then edit the grub afterwards and where would it go in the grub file explicitly? |
To answer that question you should know good & well you need to tell us WHAT the wireless card is...

are you able get slackware to boot? Get slackware booting, build the wireless driver for it, chroot into kubuntu and fix it.

Ok, only major difference is you need to give us the chipset with lsusb instead of lspci. We still can't help without knowing the chip it uses!!
