I can't seem to change the brightness on my LCD display. The default is too dim, cannot see it at all when out of a dark room. But when running Windows (yuck!), it is plenty bright enough.
Is there something in my kernel that needs to be set? Because it starts off dim right after the post (Bright during post).
Any idea what sort of a file it is? if not for the error i'd have thought that's the file, cos on my machine it's /proc/acpi/sony/brightness. Interestingly the "file" command claims that "brightness" is empty, but cat returns the brightness value. Perhaps you could try echoing something into that? No guarantee it won't destroy anything though
i'm running slack 10.2 with the bareacpi.i kernel. i found a descent little program called acpitool, lets me check the full info on my battery, as well as change the lcd brightness.
it doesn't, however, let me suspend on any level. i have to use halt.
1: Make sure it's plugged in. (Really. We've all done that!!)
2: If it only works when the technician is there, tape a picture of the tech on the inside cover.
3: Turn it on.
4: Read the directions (Even the Windows ones)
I've been messing with mainframes, minicomputers and PC's in various forms since 1973. It just goes to show that sometimes, the manufactures site actually has good info on it.
As for why I never tried the Fn+up: No little green icon on the arrow key. All the other Fn options have it, just not the arrows.
Beat me with a wet noodle.
LMFAO
As for post count: We all need help. We all have questions. None of us has all the answers. But if you know the answer, reply to the thread.
Even better, if you do NOT know the answer, figure it out, then post it. It will benefit you AND others.
