I am having a little problem here with suse and my laptop. I did a reinstall of SUSE 2 times now and the problem has not gone away.
The install goes fine and everything is okay - even after the install takes place and i login to the system.
(again, this is the 2nd time it has happened).. after the install and playing around - i turn off the laptop at night. This morning when I turned it on, during bootup it gets stuck....
on bootup the place where it is stuck is:
"ReiserFS: hda3: found reiserfs format "3.6" with standard journal
ReiserFS: hda3: using ordered data mode
reiserfs: using flush barriers
ReiserFS: hda3: journal params: device hda3, size 8192, journal first block 18, max trans len 1024, max batch 900, max commit age 30, max trans age 30
ReiserFS: hda3: checking transaction log (hda3)"
and it just sits there with the cursor blinking. I let it sit overnight thinking it might just need some time, but that wasnt the case.. I woke up the next morning and it was still in the same spot.
Does anyone know what this means or can help me out!? thanks !!!
I don't suggest booting into windows for anything. Its better that you do not waste disk on it personally.
anyway, try booting into runleven 1 (single)
what boot loader? Suse 9.3 uses grub by default. if that is the case:
press e to edit the boot params
find the line that has the word kernel in it and go to the end and add the word single
press enter to save it (only for this boot)
then press b
you should be prompted for your root password. report back if thats not the case.
