it used to work

Thanks for your reply.

however, it used to work. I must've clicked something in my mixer or maybe one of the services... I don't know.

I can't seem to find the actuall 'speaker' fader in the mixer. Or I don't know what I'm looking for.

it does list a whole bunch of stuff, but I don't know wich option is the speaker.

also, I seem to remember doing something like shutting down the sound in KDE at one point. Cos I didn't want the greeting/farewell melody to be blastin in the speakers. (I've been trying to back trace all my steps since installing and reconfiguring etc) is this possible?
if so, where do i turn it back on?

thanks

as root type "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp"
if you hear sound ignore the rest of this post. It means its a kde prob.

type
Code:
modprobe -r snd_seq_dummy
alsamixer # then configure your device
alsactl store
My thinking is when you ran alsamixer you were setting up your dummy device

tell us that your soundcard has been loaded.
